OUR CAMPAIGNS

Affordable Housing is a complex issue. No single law or policy can solve all problems - it requires an ongoing, comprehensive effort. For that reason, Met Council plays an active role in many different campaigns throughout the city, state and nation to protect and reserve affordable housing and tenants rights. We work closely with advocacy groups, community-based organizations, policy analysts, elected officials and individual citizens in our efforts to protect, preserve and improve the housing stock of New York City.

RENT & EVICTION PROTECTION - The bedrock of New York City's affordable housing stock, rent regulated housing is home to over 2 million New Yorkers. Constantly under attack, the rent laws are extremely vulnerable to being eliminated entirely.... learn more

PRESERVING AFFORDABLE HOUSING - Over 100,000 units of housing throughout the city, build with government subsidies a generation ago, are endanger of losing their affordability protections. .... Learn more about Section 8 and Mitchell-Lama, and how to save them

HOME RULE / URSTADT REPEAL - Why won't the City Council strengthen our Rent Laws? They can't. Albany decides; we abide. Join the fight for home rule, and help repeal  Urstadt. .....learn more

BUILDING AFFORDABLE HOUSING - As we protect and preserve, we must also build. Mitchell-Lama, public housing and Section 8 contributed hundreds of thousands of affordable homes a generation ago. Where is the next generation going to live in New York?.....learn more

RENT GUIDELINES BOARD (RGB) - If you are a rent regulated tenant (either stabilized or controlled), who decides how much your rent increases each year? The Rent Guidelines Board. Who decides who serves on the RGB? The mayor. Learn more about rent increases, your rights, and how to change a rigged system.

SPECIAL NEEDS HOUSING - Many of us have different housing needs than the rest of society, yet we all have one thing in common - we need and deserve decent housing we can afford. Learn more about the fight to end homelessness, and build housing for people living with AIDS and other special needs.
